Ganz Teddy Bears
Ganz teddy bears are fetching little bears. Production started in the 1950's and they're still going strong today. A Ganz bear is a great listener who will comfort you when you're down and never reject you. It often seems like they're saying, "Please take me home with you." People still love their Ganz bears and show no sign of losing interest.
These stuffed animals have been around for a long, long time and frequently soothe young (and not-so-young) children as they go off to sleep. Recently, they have even become valuable collectibles. It's really hard to imagine not having those warm, friendly, cuddly Ganz teddy bears in our lives.
But the teddy bear has not always been with us. In fact, the teddy bear did not make its entrance until late in 1902. Then, in one of life's unexplainable synchronicities, the teddy bear appeared in the same year in two different parts of the world- Germany and the United States.
In America, the teddy bear was started with a cartoon. In the early 1900s, Society ladies would carry their teddy bears with them and children often were photographed holding their bears. American manufacturers were making teddy bears of all shapes, sizes and colors. Some teddy bears even came with accessories (and others came with electric eyes). These American manufacturers of teddy bears had stiff competition from companies in Germany, and many of the American companies didn't make it very long.
German toy making was a long-established and well respected industry. A number of German firms, like Bing, Schuco and Hermann, together with Steiff, joined in making exquisite teddy bears. Artist bears also made possible a new type of manufactured teddy bear, the artist-designed manufactured bear. Today these artist-designed manufactured bears are sold by Ganz, and these give collectors the opportunity to acquire an artist-designed bear that because of mass production, costs them less.
